Adelaide
Car Rental Touring Information
ADELAIDE
is set on the wide curves of the River Torrens between the
Mount Lofty Ranges and Gulf St Vincent. Its immediate location
belies the fact that beyond the rolling hills lie great tracts
of desert Adelaide is the capital of the driest State in the
world’s second driest continent.
All our rental cars are fitted with A/C to help you cope with
the extreme summer temperatures. It has a population of almost
1.1 million, but feels smaller and, despite its bustle and
cosmopolitan character, it remains a friendly and open place.
The city offers visitors a regular calendar of festivals,
a well-preserved history, a large and varied arts program,
the warmth and light of the South Australian outdoors, and
excellent wining and dining.
Adelaide’s
city centre is compact and easily negotiated on foot, after
you have parked your rental car in one of the convenient car
parking stations. For those who are tired of driving their
rental car around and would like some help getting about,
there is a safe, clean and efficient public transport system.
The Explorer Tram offers visitors the chance to tour the city’s
attractions at a leisurely pace and with the benefit of a
recorded commentary. This tram replica has many stopping points
and visitors can board and alight as they wish. A fleet of
Popeye motor launches cruise the River Torrens and also provide
an ideal means of transport to the Adelaide Zoo. Talk to our
friendly Adelaide car rental people when you pickup your car
for friendly advice in regards to this public system
The
Trans
Adelaide’s O-Bahn is the longest guided busway in
the world. The busway runs alongside the river, from the city
to Modbury, through its own landscaped park. Be sure not to
drive your rental vehicle down the causeway for its illegal.
The historic Glenelg tram is the most famous of Adelaide’s
tourist rides. It departs Victoria Square regularly for a
return trip to Adelaide’s premier seaside suburb. The
MV
Port Princess, operating from Port Adelaide, carries visitors
down the Port River, taking in historic sites and beaches
and providing a chance to see dolphins. Car rental travel
is recommended for touring some of the farther-flung regions
in Adelaide the roads are excellent and, provided you have
a road map from our Adelaide car rental depot, navigation
should not be a problem.
Touring
The
Barossa in your rental vehicle - Whereas many parts of
Australia have developed gourmet credentials over the last
decade or so, the Barossa has a culinary heritage that goes
back 150 years. German-style baking is a highlight: try the
Lyndoch Bakery, or the Apex Bakery in Tanunda, established
70 years ago. Old-fashioned ice-cream is made and served at
Tanunda’s Nice Ice and in Angaston you’ll find
the shopfront for Australia’s biggest processor of dried
fruit Angus
Park Fruit Company. Maggie Beer’s Farm Shop at Nuriootpa
sells the products that have made her name, while Angastori
Gourmet Foods is a great place for all the region’s
best products. If there is any further information you require
please ensure to ask our friendly local car rental staff at
the time of hire.l
